Willbrook Plantation traces its origins to a royal land grant from King Charles II, issued to encourage the development of the Carolina colonies. Over time, indigo and later rice were cultivated on the property, contributing to the agricultural prosperity of the Lowcountry. The land eventually transitioned into a hunting preserve before evolving into the private residential community it is today.
The Oatland slave cemetery, containing 38 graves, remains a sacred and protected site within the community. It stands as a meaningful reminder of the area’s rich Gullah Geechee Corridor heritage, alongside other preserved historic features.
Today, Willbrook is a private, gated Lowcountry community of approximately 250 single-family homes. Surrounded by scenic intracoastal marshlands and waterways, the neighborhood winds through a golf course and driving range owned by Founders Group International. Residents enjoy a clubhouse, outdoor pool, and a vibrant calendar of social events, as well as weekly and monthly community clubs.
